Community character through murals.
My murals express my unique perspective and emotions about a location, bringing it to life and creating a meaningful representation of the community. I hope my murals inspire others to explore the world and discover the beauty and complexity around them.
Illustrating the unique character of a community through murals.
As a travel artist and urban sketcher, I have had the privilege of exploring and depicting the diverse cities and communities of the world through my art. My sketches strive to capture the very essence of a place, inviting others to experience its character and charm. However, when it comes to creating murals, I take a different approach.
Creating murals allows me to delve deeper into a location and explore it in a more intimate way. I think about the people, culture, and history of the place as I sketch and plan out the mural, trying to capture these elements in my art. My mural style is line art with markers filled with acrylic ink, which creates bold and graphic images that convey depth, movement, and emotion.
Whether I'm sketching the busy streets of Hong Kong or a peaceful lanes of Taipei, I'm always looking for new ways to capture the spirit of a place and share it with others. I hope my murals inspire others to explore the world and discover the beauty and complexity around them.
At first, working on a large wall mural can be intimidating. But I've learned to establish the main composition and adjust my ideas to the format of the wall, which helps me to get a feeling of the whole area. And once I'm in the flow of creating, it feels similar to working on a smaller scale – I just have to move myself around the wall instead of just my wrist above the paper sheet.
I am grateful for the opportunity to create a work of art that becomes such a prominent part of the environment and can be seen by so many people. Maybe some of them are also artists, or will become one in the future.
